Chapter Scholarships
The Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter of Armed Forces Communications
and Electronics Association promotes the relationship between Fort Gordon and
the Central Savannah River area community. Over the past 20 years the
Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter of AFCEA has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarship,
award and grants. The following list encompasses just a few of the area affected
by chapter support.

Over $110,000 to the Science Teaching Tools Awards to
area school to assist in developing computer labs, science labs and
science projects. |

Over $210,000 to area high school and undergraduate
students working toward computer science, electronic or engineering
degrees with our Any School USA Scholarships. |

Over $70,000 to military personnel and GS personnel
with our Tuition Assistance Program. |
 |
$40,000 granted to AFCEA International Education
Foundation to be awarded on the National Level. |
 |
$39,000 granted to Fort Discovery and the National
Science Center in Augusta. |

Over $250,000 granted to the National Signal Corps
Regimental Association to assist in the operations of the their
association. |

Over $20,000 to area Science Fair awards and grants |

Over $375,000 in support of the Fort Gordon solider
and families for numerous events and activities |
AFCEA Scholarships
Available for Students in the CSRA
The Scholarships are given during the programmed time of
year, and therefore the applications are not available for downloading unless in
the window for acceptance. Please check back during that timeframe for each
type of scholarship/grant.
1. Science Teaching Tools Award

The Augusta-Fort
Gordon Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics
Association (AFCEA) seeks to promote effective science and
mathematics teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable
teachers in secondary schools within the Central Savannah River Area
(CSRA). An award of up to $750.00 is given for teachers to purchase
materials for experiments and activities in the classroom. The
Chapter will give awards to support computer science, mathematics
and physical science laboratory efforts and class activities.
Criteria
Applicants are
teachers in the CSRA public or private elementary, middle
or high school system. Selections are based on the merit of
each teacher’s projects and program. Home school teachers may also
apply. All recipients will be required to provide a report back on
the implementation of their approved project within 60 days of
receiving funds.
Notification
Recipients will
be notified and will be recognized by
the Augusta-Fort Gordon AFCEA Chapter during a ceremony to be
announced at a later date. The names of the award recipients will
be provided to local papers, the AFCEA national publication, Signal
Magazine, and be posted on the AFCEA Augusta Fort Gordon Chapter
website.

LTG Douglas Buchholz Scholarship
|
The AFCEA Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter is now accepting applications
for the Lt. Gen. Buchholz Memorial Scholarship award. This annual
award given in honor of the late Lt. Gen. Douglas D. Buchholz, USA
(Ret.), who was the 27th Chief of Signal (Cdr, U.S. Army Signal
Center and Fort Gordon).
This scholarship is made possible by the generosity of General
Dynamics C4 Systems, who has made a donation of $25,000 to the AFCEA
Educational Foundation. Administered in conjunction with the AFCEA
Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter, the annual $2,000 scholarship will be
awarded by the Educational Foundation to one competitively selected
and deserving Fort Gordon active duty or retired enlisted service
member from any branch of the Armed Services. Selection will be
based on the recommendation of a Scholarship Board, under the
guidance of the Fort Gordon Regimental Command Sergeant Major.
Criteria:
* Current active duty service member assigned to Fort Gordon,
Georgia or retired enlisted service member that resides in the
Central Savannah River Area.
* Must be currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or
university.
* Must have completed a minimum of 15 semester hours/25 quarter
hours.
* Must be majoring in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
undergraduate field of study.
* Note: Majors that directly relate to the support of U.S.
Intelligence enterprises or national security with relevance to the
mission of AFCEA will also be eligible.
* Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better (where 4.0=A) and submission of
most current official transcript.
* Two written recommendations: by Commander or 1SG/Senior Enlisted
and a respected (non-related) individual (pastor, college professor,
etc.)
* Submission of a 450-650 word essay addressing the following topic:
"Explain how you will use your degree to benefit the United States
or the Department of Defense.

LTC Jerry Lapp Memorial Scholarship (Presented in June/July)
|
The “Lapp Memorial Scholarship”,
which, is given in honor of LTC Jerry Lapp. LTC Lapp’s outstanding
service spanned over 26 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. Employed
by Engineering Solution & Products (ESP) after retirement from the
Army; LTC Lapp continued to serve his country as a Subject Matter
Expect to the TRADOC System Manager for Warfighter Information
Network-Tactical. This scholarship has been endowed via donations
made by ESP. “LTC Jerry Lapp Memorial Scholarship” of $1500.
The “LTC Jerry Lapp
Memorial Scholarship” award of $1500.00 will be presented to the
best (top) application of the Any School Scholarship College
applications.

As the local representative of the Armed Forces Communications

Chapter is committed to encouraging the study of Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by students in the
Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). The chapter accomplishes
this goal by awarding scholarships to deserving undergraduate
college students pursuing undergraduate degrees from accredited
institutions in the following (STEM) related academic
disciplines such as: aerospace, chemical, computer, electrical,
mechanical or
systems engineering; mathematics; physics; science or
mathematics; chemistry, computer science, telecommunications,
information systems, information security or technology
management, etc.
To be eligible for consideration, the following
criteria must be met:

Majoring in a STEM related academic
discipline. Examples of acceptable STEM fields of study are:
aerospace, chemical, computer, electrical, mechanical or systems
engineering; chemistry, physics; science or mathematics;
computer science, telecommunications, information systems,
information security or technology management.

institution
